Enhancing Education and Protection for Displaced Children at Shatilla Camp

Implemented by the Women’s Humanitarian Organisation (PWHO), this project was created at the Shatilla refugee camp in Beirut to meet the specific educational needs of 75 displaced children in the camp and surrounding areas. It significantly enhances children’s academic skills, particularly at the BLN and KG levels, by preparing them to transition into Lebanese public elementary schools and UNRWA schools.

The services offered also help protect displaced children from early childhood issues and premature labor, particularly during Lebanon’s difficult economic conditions. Staff support children by reviewing daily concepts, encouraging active participation, and fostering an environment where asking questions and making mistakes are seen as natural parts of learning.

Services provided: BLN educational classes, Kindergarten (KG), educational community for women, psychological services for children and parents, psychosocial support (PSS) activities, referral cases, and summer activities.

The project runs five days a week, five hours per day, for one full academic year including summer activities.

This project is funded by the Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA).
